Srinagar, May 7: Around 500 patients received free medical consultations, diagnostic screening and medicines during a multi-speciality outreach camp organised by Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar at Kanikach, Abi Dal area today.
The camp was organised by the Department of Community Medicine under the Family Adoption Programme mandated by the National Medical Commission, bringing specialist healthcare services to residents at their doorstep.
Principal and Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof Dr Iffat Hassan Shah, inaugurated the camp in the presence of Deputy Registrar Academics Prof Dr Saleem Itoo, Head of Community Medicine Prof Dr S M Salim Khan, District Tuberculosis Officer Srinagar Dr Abdul Rouf and Block Medical Officer Hazratbal Dr Abdul Majeed Bhat.
According to officials, free services included drug distribution, haemoglobin and blood sugar testing, triple serology testing facilitated by NACO, AI-generated chest X-ray screening, sputum examination and blood pressure and body mass index assessment.
Specialist consultation services were provided in ENT, general medicine, dermatology, psychiatry, surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, AYUSH and dental care. Patients requiring advanced care were referred to hospitals for further treatment.
As part of the outreach programme, doctors also visited a local school where awareness sessions were conducted on adolescent health issues, including mental health, peer pressure, menstrual hygiene and mobile addiction.
Healthcare professionals, postgraduate students, paramedical staff and local health workers participated in the camp, while health education on hygiene, nutrition, non-communicable diseases and preventive healthcare was also imparted to residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Shah stressed the importance of outreach programmes in improving access to healthcare in underserved areas.
