GMC holds training on drug safety

JAMMU, Dec 9: More than 80 senior Health Officials of Health and Medical Education Department from Jammu division working as BMO,STO, DTO, MTOs  including senior teaching faculty of Government Medical College and ASCOMS from various specialities like Medicine, Paediatrics, surgery, PSM and Pharmacology were sensitised and trained in a one day CME Cum Workshop/Training and Orientation  basic course on “Pharmacovigilance/Adverse Drug Reactions and Drug Safety in the field of ant tubercular drugs” being prescribed to sensitive TB and MDR and XDR TB patients” in Department of Pharmacology today.
To enhance drug safety/patient safety and in order to share facilities, expertise, research and to explore and strengthen the functional collaboration between the two institutions, a memorandum of understanding was signed.
Dr Vishal R Tandon, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, GMC, Jammu and In-charge/Co-ordinator ADRM Centre of IPC and Dr. Sujata Sharma, State TB Officer Jammu were the organising secretary of the training programme.
Dr Sujata deliberated about the excellence achieved by the RNTCP programme in the state of J&K and Dr Vishal Tandon trained all the health officials regarding Adverse drug reactions and drug safety aspects in this particular field.
Dr Sapna Gupta and Dr Sharminder Kour, Assistant Professors of the Department of Pharmacology delivered lecturers and were also the training/teaching faculty along with Dr Vishal Tandon in the programme.
Dr Zahid Gillani, Professor and Head Department of Pharmacology/ Centre, GMC Jammu was the organising chairperson of the CME. Dr Rekha Harish, HoD Paediatrics, GMC, Jammu, Dr Anil Gupta, HoD Medicine ASCOMS, Dr Ravinder Gupta, HoD Paediatrics ASCOMS, Dr KS Mehta HoD Surgery ASCOMS & Dr Dinesh Kumar HoD PSM GMC Jammu were the prominent teaching faculty along with Dr Yashpal Sharma, Registrar Academics, GMC Jammu who participated in the CME/training programme.
