Srinagar, May 24: Doctors at Government Medical College Anantnag treated 14 patients suffering from complex cardiac arrhythmias during a two-day Electrophysiology Study and Radiofrequency Ablation (EPS/RFA) workshop organised by the institution’s Department of Cardiology.
Officials said the procedures, carried out over Friday and Saturday, included treatment of six patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome, one patient with atrial tachycardia, and seven patients with Atrioventricular Nodal Reentrant Tachycardia (AVNRT).
They said a high volume of intricate tachyarrhythmia cases was managed successfully within two days despite infrastructural and resource constraints.
The procedures were performed under the leadership of Dr Syed Maqbool, Head of Cardiology, with support from faculty members Dr Shamim Iqbal, Dr Showkat Hussain Shah and Dr Shahid Kakroo.
Technical staff also worked round-the-clock to ensure patient safety and successful outcomes.
Principal of GMC Anantnag, Prof Dr Rukhsana Najeeb, lauded the cardiology team for successfully conducting the workshop, saying the achievement reflected the institution’s commitment to expanding super-specialty cardiac care facilities in South Kashmir.
She said the faculty members had continued to raise the bar despite limited resources and credited their dedication and hard work for the successful completion of the workshop.
EPS/RFA is a specialised procedure used to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms by mapping electrical signals in the heart and ablating faulty pathways.
Officials said the availability of such advanced interventions at GMC Anantnag would benefit patients from South Kashmir and adjoining areas who earlier had to travel outside the Valley for treatment.
