Girl injured in leopard attack, people block NH

RAMBAN, May 16: A girl child was injured in leopard attack in Chanderkote area of the district. However, irate people held protest against Wild Life Department and blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, a girl was injured when a leopard attacked her in Chanderkote.
After getting information, locals rushed to the spot and shifted the girl to the hospital, where she was responding to the treatment, when last reports came in.
As the news of the leopard attack spread, the locals assembled and held protest against the Wild Life Department. The protestors also blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
While talking to media persons, one of the protestors said that some leopards are straying near their residential houses, which has created fear among them.
“Few days back, a leopard killed scores of sheep and goats of a villager, while some went missing after wild cat’s attack”, he said, adding that the Police Department and Administration were apprised about the presence of leopards in our area, but no action has been taken till date.
After getting information, DySP Headquarters Asgar Malik along with SHO Chanderkote Inspector Abid Shah Bukhari and SHO Ramban Vijay Kotwal rushed to the spot and assured the protestors of taking up their issue with the Wild Life Department for redressal in the shortest possible time.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the highway.
