KATHUA, Sept 6: The villagers of Ghatti and adjoining areas today staged dharna at National Highway near Sakhte Chak in protest against the failure of Revenue and Flood Control Departments to take appropriate measures in protecting the land and the houses along the bank of river Ujh in the area.
The protesters said that vast agriculture land across the banks of the river Ujh has been washed away in flash floods for last several years and even the residential houses in adjoining villages are facing the threat of being washed away in case the immediate steps of constructing the protection wall is not taken up in hand to save it.
They said that they have apprised the Revenue and Flood Control authorities of the problem several times but to no avail so they were forced to hold a warning protest at National Highway today. They warned that in case the concerned authorities failed to take appropriate measures to protect the agriculture land and adjoining villages who are at the brink of flood threat they will be forced to block the National Highway.
