SRINAGAR: Chairman of hardline Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani suffered a mild heart attack today in New Delhi.

However, his condition is stable, spokesman for the HC Aiyaz Akbar said before leaving for the national capital this afternoon.

Mr Geelani, who is in Delhi for the past about one month, suffered a mild attack. He was rushed to hospital and his condition is stable now, Mr Aiyaz added.

Former Chief Minister and working president of the National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah has also prayed for early recovery of Mr Geelani.

Mr Abdullah tweeted “Just heard about SAS Geelani having taken ill, admitted to the ICU in a Delhi hospital. Prayers for his speedy recovery.”

An official statement issued by HC said Mr Geelani this morning complained of chest pain after which he was immediately moved to Max Hospital in New Delhi where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The doctors in the hospital conducted many vital medical examinations including the ECG and was administered oxygen.

However, after the test results, the doctors declared the health condition of Mr Geelani as stable.

On hearing this news about Mr Geelani, a team of Hurriyat leaders, comprising of Personal Secretary to Chairman Peer Saifullah, spokesman Aiyaz Akbar and  senior leader Raja Mehraj-ud-din rushed to see him. (Agencies)
