Jammu, Mar 12: : R&B Minister Abdul Majid Wani today directed officers of his department to gear up the snow clearance/ road restoration operations at a war footing.
Directing the engineers of different wings of Public Works (R&B) Department including R&B, Mechanical Engineering and PMGSY, Wani asked them to depute their men and machinery immediately in the field so as to restore all road links which have been either closed or washed away due to incessant snow/ rainfall during last two days.
“It becomes prime duty of all engineers of the department to lessen inconveniences caused to general public in tough hilly terrains of Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Udhampur, Reasi and parts of the Kashmir valley where people are stuck up due to heavy snow/ rainfalls during last two days”, he said.
Wani also directed the authorities to ensure supply of sufficient food grains and kerosene oil to these areas without any further delay.
Mr Wani also spoke to the Chief Minister who was quick in flying a high level team of officers including Financial Commissioner Revenue, Principal Secretary Planning and Divisional Commissioner Jammu to Doda to take stock of the situation in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban.
Wani also directed the Deputy Commissioner Doda to make assessment of losses occurred to private as well as Government property and submit the same to the Government within couple days. Deputy Commissioner Doda was asked to personally review the road clearance/ rescue operations and rush special teams of officials from Revenue, R&B, PDD and Police Department to all affected areas immediately.
Deputy Commissioner Doda was further asked to rush supplies of food grains and kerosene oil to areas like Gundna, Gadehtar, Shadiwan, Bharath, Kulhand, Abli Masri, Breswana, Ludna and Tantna from where reports have been received about shortage of food grains in ration depots as well as private provisional stores.
