UDHAMPUR, Nov 21: Department of Botany and Biotechnology in Government Degree College Udhampur, organized one day seminar on the theme “Plant Biotechnology in human Welfare”, here today.
Prof B L Koul (former Principal SPMR College of Commerce), Prof. R. L Matoo, founder HoD, Department of Bio-Chemistry, SKIMS, Soura Srinagar and Dr Shri Ram Yadav from Department of Biotechnology IIT Roorkee, Uttranchal, were the resource persons, who made their presentation on the topics related to the theme. About 150 students from different colleges viz GDC Ramnagar, GCW Udhampur and the host college along with their faculty attended the seminar.
Dr Shri Ram Yadav made an elaborated presentation, covering all aspects of the theme, and interacted with the students in open house discussion. He encouraged the students to choose ‘Biotechnology’ for studies and research to make career in this field. He also explained as to how the applications of this applied branch of life sciences can be of immense help in mitigating our day to day problems be eat food, security, medicine, healthy life or other industrial processes based on exploitation of life processes
Earlier, Principal of the College, Prof S S Bhalwal, presented a formal welcome address. Dr Sumita Abrol, Department of Biotechnology, conducted proceeding of the programme while vote of thanks was presented by Prof Romesh Kr Atri, HoD Botany of the college.
Prof K S Koushal, Principal GCW Udhampur, Dr Udhey Bhanu, Convener Star College Scheme, Prof Hans Raj Sharma, Prof Jawaid Sarver, Prof. Devpriya, Prof. Vishal Sharma, Dimple Manhas, Usha Rani and Asha Rani attended the seminar.
