Gang selling stolen vehicles in Anantnag busted, 5 held

Srinagar, Sept 22: Police in Anantnag today said to have busted a gang by arresting five persons and recovered 18 stolen vehicles.
Police Station Anantnag received information through reliable sources that several vehicles stolen from various parts of the country are plying in Anantnag town and its outskirts which are being used for carrying out various criminal activities.
Accordingly, a Case vide FIR No. 411/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered and the investigation was initiated.
Subsequently, police said, a special investigation team (SIT) under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Anantnag was constituted to investigate the matter. During the investigation, after strenuous efforts, 18 vehicles including 03 two-wheelers suspected to be stolen vehicles were recovered.
“Out of these, 10 vehicles have so far been established to be stolen vehicles about which FIRs are registered in various police stations of the country. Credentials are being ascertained about remaining vehicles which prima facia appears to be stolen only,” police said.
During the investigation, as of now, police said, 5 accused persons found involved in theft and possession of stolen vehicles have been arrested. “Further investigation into the matter is going on and efforts are on to recover all the other stolen vehicles mainly plying in Anantnag,” police said while appealing to people not to buy any suspicious non-J&K registered vehicle from any unauthorized dealers.
