Addressing a press conference, Baig said several major development projects had already been approved and the necessary documents had reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
“The funds are available. What is needed now is timely execution and effective use of administrative authority so that the sanctioned projects are completed without delay,” he said.
The MLA said Baramulla had secured key infrastructure projects, including a Rs 42-crore sewage treatment plant and a Rs 16-crore sewerage scheme for Government Medical College Baramulla, and urged the administration to ensure their prompt implementation.
He maintained that the constituency was poised for significant development and said the sanctioned projects would mark a milestone in Baramulla’s growth if executed on schedule.
Highlighting the issue of waterlogging in the town, Baig attributed the problem to encroachments on natural drainage channels and called upon the Revenue Department to take corrective measures.
He said funds had been arranged to improve the drainage network but removal of encroachments and execution of the works required intervention by the concerned departments.
Baig also warned that contractors quoting bids 40 per cent or more below estimated project costs would come under scrutiny, saying any irregularities found could invite strict action, including blacklisting.
On the shortage of construction material, he said the Government and district administration must address the issue to ensure that ongoing and upcoming development works are not affected.
