Four Orissa residents among 7 arrested with contraband

*Absconder arrested after 24 yrs

JAMMU/DODA, July 19: Bahu Fort, Nagrota and Narwal Police arrested seven persons including four residents of Orissa with contraband, while Gandoh Police apprehended an absconder after 24 years.
As per police sources, a team from Police Station Bahu Fort laid a naka and intercepted four persons, who were moving under suspicious circumstances near Railway Station here.
During checking, police team recovered 6.800 grams of marihuana (ganja) from their possession and arrested them.
The arrested persons were identified as Laxmidhar Mahal, son of Arjun Mahal, Kanha Pradhan, son of Purna Charan Pradhan, Badal Pradhan, son of Beru Pradhan and Sharad Singh, son of Meru Badyar Singh, all residents of Orissa.
During preliminary questioning, the arrested persons disclosed that the consignment was supposed to be delivered among youths of different localities of Jammu City.
Police team led by SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Deepak Pathania and assisted by PSI Balbir Singh made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO East Bikram Kumar, SP South Deepak Digra and SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Nagrota during checking near Ban Toll Plaza intercepted two vehicles bearing registration number JK02AS-6595 and JK02CP-9162.
During checking, police team recovered 7 kilograms of poppy straw and 300 grams of cannabis from the vehicles and arrested two persons, who were identified as Ramesh Lal, son of Bodh Raj of Raipur Satwari and Vinod Kumar, son of Som Nath of Hazuri Bagh Bohri District Jammu.
Police team led by SHO Inspector Mohammad Shoket made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Parupkar Singh.
In one more similar case, a team from Police Post Narwal laid a naka and intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK02CE-5246 coming from Panama Chowk towards vegetable market at Narwal.
During checking, police team recovered 16 grams heroin from the possession of the rider and arrested him.
The arrested person was identified as Rashpal Singh, son of Pritam Singh, a resident of Upper Gadigarh District Jammu.
Police team led by Incharge Police Post Narwal SI Achal Rana made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Deepak Pathania, SDPO East Bikram Kumar and SP South Deepak Digra.
Cases under relevant Sections have been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and Nagrota and Investigation started.
However, a joint team of Police Station Gandoh led by Inspector Vikram Singh and Incharge Police Post Changa led by ASI Mushtaq Ahmed conducted raid and apprehended an absconder, who was evading his arrest since 1997.
The arrested person was identified as Mohammad Iqbal, son of Haleem of Bhedu Billawer District Kathua.
He was wanted in a case registered under FIR Number 51/1990 under Sections 379 and 201 RPC with Police Station Gandoh.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
The arrest was made under the supervision of SDPO Gandoh Shahzada Kabir Matto, Additional SP Bhaderwah Abdul Qayoom and SSP Doda Mumtaz Ahmed.
