Four killed, one injured as taxi falls into gorge

DODA, May 29: Four persons were killed and one injured when the taxi they were travelling-in fell 200 meters deep into a gorge on a hilly road of Doda district this evening.
The ill fated taxi was of Swift Desire make and was on its way from Bhalla (in Doda) to Jammu when it rolled down the hill at Batote-Doda road and landed in a rivulet ‘Raggi Nallah’.
On getting news of the mishap the cops from nearby Police Post immediately rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with the help of locals and shifted all the four deceased and one injured person to Hospital. Click here to watch video
Registration number of the vehicle could not be known till last reports.
When contacted, SDPO Doda Headquarters, Jaswant Singh informed that as reasons for the accident were under investigation so nothing could be said at this moment.
SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom informed that deceased persons were Radha Devi, 56, wife of Om Parshad, resident of Gajoth Bhalla; Ved Parkesh, 65, son of Amar Nath, resident of Betholi Bhalla; Om Parshad, 60, son of Amar Nath, resident of Gajoth Bhalla and Raj Kumari, 56, wife of Ram Rattan, resident of Badasoo.
The injured has been identified as Mohd Aslam, 25, son Abdul Gani, resident of Dhansal, Jammu and he was undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Police has registered a case in this regard and started investigation.
