JAMMU, Nov 29: Even as the police today detained and registered a case under Section 304-A against the erring traffic officials due to whose negligence a youth was killed and another seriously injured in a tragic accident that took place yesterday at Bhagwati Nagar, the family members and relatives of the deceased youth staged a massive protest demonstration at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu, demanding registration of murder case against the erring traffic officials and their immediate arrest.
Yesterday, Siddharth Mattoo son of Deepak Mattoo, a resident of Talab Tillo lost his life while Vishal Kumar son of Vijay Kumar got serious injuries in a tragic accident at Bhagwati Nagar due to the alleged negligence of traffic cops, who in a bid to stop their bike caught hold the hand of the Vishal Kumar, who was riding the vehicle.
According to the police sources, an open FIR has been registered under Section 304-A against the erring traffic officials while as the investigation is on to verify who among those traffic officials held the hand of the youth on bike, which led to tragic accident and his resultant death. However, all the four accused cops are in police custody and they are being interrogated.
Meanwhile, holding the traffic cops responsible for their son’s death, the family members of the deceased youth along with their relatives held a strong protest demonstration at GMCH Jammu and blocked its old gate for hours together demanding that a case under Section 302 be registered against them as they were not arrested immediately. They also opposed postmortem till their demands are fulfilled.
The police tried hard to pacify them but all went in vain. Later, SP City, Shiv Kumar Chauhan, Deputy SP, Pradeep Singh and NC candidate from Jammu West, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal reached the spot and on their assurance that all the accused will be arrested, they pacified and dispersed.
Thereafter, the postmortem of the body was conducted under the supervision of a medical board comprising 3-4 doctors and later body was handed over to the family members for cremation.
