JAMMU, Sept 18: On the directions of Minister for CAPD and Tribal Affairs to intensify checking on the eve of upcoming festivals, a team of officers of Legal Metrology Department booked four prominent cake sellers for delivering less quantity cakes to the consumers.
According to Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Enforcement, Manoj Prabhakar, a team of LMD comprising of Inspectors Rohit Gupta and Pooja Kumari conducted extensive checking of all the cake sellers in and around Jammu city and booked four prominent cake sellers for indulging in unethical trade practices.
The cake sellers have been identified as M/s Premier Cake House, Residency Road, M/s Parveen Prov Store, Rehari, M/s Dayal Bakers, Rehari and M/s Cream and Craft, Canal Road, he added.
Prabhakar stated that the modus operandi for delivering less to the consumers by way of adding the weight of board tray along with the weight of the cake was detected by the Inspectors by becoming dummy consumers.
“They purchased 1 kg cake from above sellers and on weight, it came to only 880 grams to 900 grams and rest was the weight of the tray. The inspecting team enquired the rate of the tray which came to only 8 rupees thereby causing loss to gullible consumers to the tune of Rs 40 approx per kg”, he informed.
He has warned the traders to desist from such ill practices otherwise stern action will be initiated against them in future.
