NEW DELHI, Jan 19:
In a major setback to the Congress ahead of February 7 Delhi Assembly polls, former union minister Krishna Tirath today joined the BJP.
Ms Tirath met BJP national president Amit Shah at his residence in the morning.
Sources in the BJP said she will take party’s membership formally at around 1600 hrs.
The 59-year-old was the Minister for Women and Child Development in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet. “It is the job of party national president to decide my responsibility in the party, to serve the people will be my responsibility,” Ms Tirath told reporters after her meeting with Mr Shah.
Ms Tirath became the latest among leaders from other political parties to join the BJP.
Earlier, social activist Kiran Bedi, former Aam Aadmi Party leader Shazia Ilmi and expelled AAP MLA Vinod Kumar Binny joined the saffron party just ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls. (UNI)
