JAMMU, Oct 8: Former MLA Ramban, Ashok Kumar took stock of grievances of victims of landslide and land sinking triggered by alleged unscientific cutting of slopes by NHAI and its contractors at Dalwas (Ramban) in March this year wherein the victims were rendered homeless.
After visit Dalwas, Kumar urged upon J&K Lieutenant Governor to direct the concerned authorities to compensate and rehabilitate the victims and provide them food materials and cooking gas on war footing as winters are approaching.
He also said that the affected people are homeless for the last six months due to the sinking of major portion of Dalwas hamlet and are temporary accommodated in High School Dalwas since March 2020.
Former MLA said, as the Government schools are about to reopen, there is no arrangement to accommodate the affected people who are below poverty line and have no source of earning livelihood.
“The only source of livelihood for the victim families was small pieces of land which they used to cultivate,” Kumar said adding that temporary land for tents should be provided to the affected people on humanitarian grounds.
