Former minister demands district status for Billawar

KATHUA, Aug 12: Former minister and District Congress Committee president, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma pitched for District status to Billawar, during a meeting of Blocks Congress Committees of Billawar, Ramkote and Mandi, here today.
All the committee members unanimously supported the Dr Sharma and passed a resolution for the same.
Dr Sharma said that present area of administration in District Kathua is very vast and it causes delay in implementing welfare schemes and projects. “District Kathua comprises of different agro climatic conditions with plain land, hilly areas, Kandi belt and the area along International Border, due to its vastness, the people of far flung areas are not getting benefits of the welfare scheme,” he said.
He further said that the creation of new district would lay the foundation for the growth of all far flung. “A new district will have a new Collectorate and will encourage employment opportunities with creation of new commercial establishments and industries,” he asserted.
Others who were present during the meeting included Budhi Singh, president BCC Nagrota Gujroo, Girdhari Lal Padha, Shiv Kumar, vice presidents, Rattan Chand, Tirath Ram, Mast Ram andothers.
