SRINAGAR, Sept 17: Former Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, passed away today after a brief illness. He was 90.
Bhat breathed his last at his residence in Botingoo Sopore, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
“He passed away this evening after being unwell for the past week,” family sources said.
A prominent political figure, Bhat co-founded the Muslim United Front (MUF) in 1986 and later served as chairman of the APHC.
He also remained president of the Muslim Conference, a faction later banned by the Centre.
His demise has been widely mourned across political and social circles.
