JAMMU, Sept 30: A large number of Female Multi Purpose Health Workers (FMPHWs) staged protest demonstration in support of their demands here today.
The FMPHWs from the Health and Family Welfare Department and posted in various Sub-Centres of Jammu division, who are at the verge of starvation due to non-payment of their salaries for the last 10 to 14 months, assembled at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare here and started protest demonstration today. They pointed out that several times they submitted memorandum to the Director Family Welfare but nothing has been done in this regard so far. Only false assurances were received from officers.
The workers under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Medical Employees Federation launched their struggle. Sushil Sudan, president of the Federation urged upon the Health authorities to release the pending wages of the FMPHWs as they were facing starvation. He alleged that it was highly unjustified to keep employees without pay for so many months. Several other members including Mahima Devi, Nancy Bhan and others also spoke on the occasion and criticized the authorities for non-payment of the salaries of the workers.
Later, the FMPHWs took out a protest march from Directorate of Health towards MLA Hostel and Indira Chowk which finally culminated at City Chowk. It was decided to stage dharna outside Divisional Commissioner’s office of Oct 14 if their salary was not released.
