Fix responsibility for discrepancies in voter lists: BJP

JAMMU, Mar 16: In view of the massive resentment over large scale discrepancies in the voter lists, it has become imperative on part of the Government to look into these allegations, constitute a team to investigate and fix the responsibility on the erring officials and staff of the concerned department.
In an official handout, BJP State spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan said that the state unit of BJP has already expressed grave concern over the issue. He said that the party State president and other senior leaders have taken the matter with the senior officials of election authorities in the State and shared the details about various discrepancies in the voter lists.
“The seriousness of the matter can be well judged from the allegations that in many municipal wards, hundreds of names of the existing voters have been deleted; in many cases a male is mentioned as female voter; no corrections have been made despite the applications submitted well in time for the purpose; parentage & age is incorrect; residential addresses too are mentioned wrong in many cases; names of some voters from a particular ward have been shifted to adjoining or other Ward”, said Balbir and added that in one such case of negligence, the name of a female Ex-Corporator has also been deleted despite the fact she is still living in the same ward. Similar complaints are being received from the other districts.
BJP State Spokesperson said that the voters, whose names stood registered for decades in the voter lists are also missing and it is not just a mistake but seems to be part of some conspiracy hatched at the behest of some political parties, who want to regain their ground. It is not possible without the active involvement of the officials and staff of the election authorities, which need to be investigated.
