JAMMU, Oct 4: The farmers of Jammu have expressed their satisfaction over the opening of 20 paddy procurement centers in Jammu , Kathua and Samba districts first time in the history of J&K UT before start of paddy harvesting with unique Web Portal direct payment and registration of farmers on portal. Tajinder Singh Wazir, president, JK Kissan Council said that every year farmers had to hold demonstrations on roads for procurement of crops on Minimum Support Price (MSP) from Food Corporation of India (FCI) but this year Department of Agriculture will come on farmers’ doorsteps for their registrations and aware them to avoid middle man’s directly sale of their paddy crop in 20 Government procurement centres.
Singh said Principal Secretary Agriculture, Navin Kumar Chaudhary went village to village for preparation of Mandies, gunny bags and instructed the staff that at any cost the Minimum Support Price should directly go to farmers pockets which shows that Government is keen towards welfare of farmers.
The Lt Governor while inaugurating 20 centres gave instructions to Revenue Department for preparing timely land records of farmers.
The farmers appealed to Director Agriculture to fix paddy cleaning rates at procurement centres so that no body can exploit farmers and their monopoly will be stored by proving more machines under machinery mission schemes for paddy cleaning at procurement centres to avoid bungling in paddy cleaning.
