Srinagar, Dec 8: Five days seminar on organic farming for apple farmers which was organized by 52 RR of 10 Sector RR under aegis of CIF (K) culminated today.
This seminar was conducted in collaboration with Dr Imtiaz Lone, a leading expert in the field from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), to provide an opportunity to the local farmers, especially the marginal ones, to learn about the breakthroughs in apple farming, enhance production and reap rich dividends by application of the state-of-the-art methods in Organic Apple Farming.
The seminar covered various aspects of apple farming to include all stages from sowing till harvest.
Though these farmers had been cultivating and harvesting apples since generations, they were still unaware of the modern techniques and methodology of increasing their agricultural produce. The seminar received an excellent response from the farmers who received an in depth exposure to the nuances of organic farming which will not only increase their yield manifold but also will enhance the market value, both in domestic as well as international markets.
The seminar also had field visits to SKUAST-K, Wadura and the Horticulture Farms at Zangam, Pattan where the farmers received first hand training under experts.
The farmers were also provided with literature on the subject which had comprehensive details regarding organic farming throughout the year. They were also presented with a certificate of participation. Over a 100 farmers benefited from this seminar who exhorted the Army to organize such seminars in future also.
