First phase of Pulse Polio Campaign to start in January: Shabir

JAMMU, Dec 11: The first phase of the Pulse Polio Campaign-2014 will be launched in the State in January for which the Health Department has started preparations in advance.
This was disclosed at monthly review meeting convened under the chairmanship of  the Minister of State for Health Shabir Ahmad Khan to review district-wise and block-wise physical and financial performance of the health institutions of Jammu division.
Minister said that provision for better medical facilities to the patients is receiving prime attention of the present Government. He exhorted upon the health functionaries to take every possible measure to extend better medicare facilities, particularly in remote and far-off areas of the state.
Referring to the monitoring mechanism put in place at district level by engaging District Monitors, the Minister said that the step has been taken to bring accountability and transparency in implementation of health schemes and delivery of services.
Stressing the need for conducting special training for Medical Officers, the Minister directed the Director Health Services, Jammu   to rationalize the available medical staff so that the services in the hospitals do not suffer.
The Minister asked the CMOs and BMOs to deploy the X-Ray technicians on rotation to meet the shortage of staff in the health centres under their jurisdiction. He said this would help in avoiding inconvenience to the people to some extent. He called for immediate arrangements in this regard, adding that failure on the part of concerned authorities would be viewed seriously.     He also directed the BMOs to conduct frequent visits to health institutions in their respective areas and take action against non-performing employees.
Taking serious note of observations made by District Monitor, the Minister ordered attachment of BMO, Mahore till further orders. He also constituted a committee to look into the negative observations and asked it to submit report in 15 days.
A power point presentation was also presented on the implementation of schemes and action taken on the decisions taken in the previous meeting.
Among others, Secretary, Health & Medial Education Gazanaffar Hussain,  Director Health Services, Jammu,  Director Family Welfare, Mission Director NRHM  Deputy Director (HQ) besides, Medical Superintendents, Chief Medical Officers, Block Medical Officers of various health institutions of Jammu Division attended the meeting.
