First Ever SPIC MACAY Circuit concludes in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Feb 23: Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) organised a 5-day Circuit in Kashmir with the support of Army, here.
Sarangi Maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri, son of Sarangi Legend Late Ustad Sabri Khan of Sainia Gharana ventured into the interiors of Kashmir along with Dr Sapna K Sangra, State Chairperson SPIC MACAY and Sabir Hussain who accompanied him on the Tabla.
In all, ten concerts were held covering the length and breadth of the valley which included eight Kendriya Vidyalayas, Army Goodwill School Uri and NIT, Srinagar.
The first performance was held at the Army Goodwill School in Uri Sector in which 350 students from the villages along the LOC participated. They were joined in by the officers and the locals.
This was followed by performances at Kendriya Vidalaya Gingal, Uri; Kendriya Vidalaya Baramulla, Kendriya Vidalaya Bandipora, Kendriya Vidalaya No.2 Srinagar, Kendriya Vidalaya No.1 Batwara, Kendriya Vidalaya Pantha Chowk, Kendriya Vidalaya Avantipora and Kendriya Vidalaya Humama. Nearly 2500 students from Kendriya Vidyalays benefitted from the concerts.
All these concerts were attended by the VMC members and their Chairmen. Children had an opportunity of closely interact with the artists wherein Kamal Sabri explained the finer points to make Indian Classical Music more interesting and popular amongst the younger generations.
The artists were felicitated by Maj Gen G S Rawat, YSM, SM, GOC, Dagger Division. Speaking on the occasion, the GOC thanked the artists and people of Baramulla for making the concert a mega success.
SPIC MACAY also got institutionalized at the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar during the present circuit. The event was organized and conducted by the students of the Institute under the guidance of Dean Students Welfare, Prof Abdul Liman.
The proceedings were conducted by Dr Mushtaq Rather.
