SRINAGAR: The first batch of 673 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir arrived here today in two flights after performing the annual Haj in Saudi Arabia.
Minister for Haj and Auqaf Abdul Rehman Veeri received the pilgrims at Srinagar International Airport, an official spokesman said.
He said while 336 Haj pilgrims arrived in the first flight in the morning, 337 others arrived in the second flight.
Interacting with the pilgrims, Veeri felicitated them for performing Haj.
He said all the requisite arrangements have been put in place to facilitate hassle-free return of the pilgrims to their respective destinations.
The pilgrims expressed satisfaction over the arrangements made by the Government for their smooth travel and stay at the Holy places in Saudi Arabia.
Later, talking to reporters, the Minister said 10 pilgrims had passed away during the pilgrimage this year.
“As many as 6642 intending Hajis had left for performing Haj from the State this year. 10 pilgrims passed away during the pilgrimage including three during the stampede at Mina,” the minister said.
“As per the latest information received from Consulate General of India and Executive Officer J-K State Haj Committee, camped at Mecca, three pilgrims – Abdul Salam, a resident of Mustafa Abad Colony Old HMT Road Zainakote Srinagar, Mohammad Amin of Bilal Colony Bemina, Srinagar and Mehraj-ud-Din of Patlipora Bala Chatabal, Srinagar – died in Mina stampede,” Veeri said.
He said the circumstances of death of two Hajis Mukhta Banoo and Abdul Wahid was yet to be confirmed.
He said one Haji namely Ghulam Hassan, a resident of Doulatabad Khanayar here died in Crane accident at Mecca earlier.
The minister said that four Hajis died of natural cause, while four others were injured in the stampede.
Veeri said four other pilgrims from the State were missing after the stampede.
The minister said the State Haj Committee officials, camping at Mecca, were in constant touch with Consulate General of India and officials of Saudi Arabia to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing Hajis besides ensuring best Medicare facilities for the injured. (AGENCIES)
