Fire engulfs Mansar forests

SAMBA, June 12: Mansar forests caught fire under mysterious circumstances this afternoon. The immediate cause of the fire was not known but as per reports the fire started from the forests of Bhupnergarh and reached village Bindu Beda near Mansar. Fire Service Department, SDRF, Forest Department, Jal Shakti Department and Police personnel were engaged to control from spreading further. But the increasing heat wave and strong winds were creating a problem in fighting the blaze. The fire tender and tankers of the Jal Shakti Department were put into service. Due to the fire, there has been a huge loss of forest wealth as well as many wild animals are fared to have been roasted alive in the fire.
Police Post Mansar in-charge, Nirmal Singh said that information about the incident of fire was received in the afternoon, the vehicle of the Fire Service Department could not reach the spot, so SDRF, Forest Department and police personnel tried to control the fire manually but to no avail. “Now all of us are working to control the fire with the help of local people and it is our effort that the fire should not spread the other side of the road because there are residential houses on this side of the road”. He said the efforts are on to save them.
He said that the fire has spread within a radius of three to four kilometers, if the winds continues, then the fire can spread to more areas.
