Fire damages historic Masjid in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Nov 6: Mid-night blaze partially damaged the historic Pathar Masjid in Nawabazar area of the old city in Srinagar.
A Mughal-era stone Masjid went up in flames due to short circuit casuing major damage to its pulpit.
Officials said that given the fact that the Masjid is made of stones, the fire did not affect the structure much and could not damage anything beyond the pulpit.
They added that the fire tenders were called on to the spot well in time and the flames were doused. They also said that the short circuit has been zeroed as the reason for the blaze.

After the locals saw smoke coming out of the Masjid, they reached to help themselves and also called the fire tenders. Police, locals along with the personnel of Fire & Emergency services acted swiftly and doused the flames down.
The Masjid, with its distinct features, was built by Mughal Empress Noor Jehan, wife of emperor Jehangir and is located along the Jhelum opposite Khanqah-e-Moula.
