FIR against PDP leader for bid to kill wife

RAJOURI, Aug 29: The Police has registered a case against a PDP block president from Manjakote for attempt to kill his wife by pouring kerosene oil.
While the case FIR No. 79/ 2014 under Sections 307/504/ 323 was registered against PDP leader Mohd Salim Khan, son of Mohd Latief of Manjakote on August 18, the police has failed to arrest the accused person who is still at large. The victim, Zareena Begum, herself freed herself from the clutches of her husband while he was beating her and poured kerosene oil to kill her. Then she straightway rushed to Police Station. A mother of four children, 38-year old Zareena in her complaint stated that her husband used to beat her on different pretexts and now he poured kerosene oil and tried to burn herself to death. She pushed him away when he tried to light a match stick and locked him inside the room and ran away from the house raising alarm. The locals also rushed and they later started assembling.
Zareena’s brother Muteey-ur-Rehman said that his sister was being tortured and victimised since long by Mohd Salim. Even several times, local Panchayat members intervened and resolved matter. This was his extreme step to kill Zareena, a mother of four children. He said his sister is Anganwadi worker and getting small pay and was not being supported adequately by her husband for the education of children. He demanded that accused be arrested without any more delay. He also appealed the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti not to support and project such party activists who are criminals and indulging in such unlawful acts.
