JAMMU, May 31: Close on the heels of a case of alleged sexual harassment by an Assistant Professor in Jammu University, another Professor has invited shame to the apex institution of higher learning as an FIR was registered against Director Physical Education and Chairman Campus Sports, Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia for resorting to `uncultured’ behaviour and ransacking a showroom at Bahu Plaza market.
A case FIR number 125/17, under Sections 451, 427, 323 and 506 of RPC has been registered against Professor Avtar Singh Jasrotia at Trikuta Nagar Police Station. He was also detained today by Police for questioning into the case.
Sources said that the case of trespassing, damaging private property of the complainant and assaulting was registered against the JU Professor after he forced his entry into Fire Fox Cycle Station at Bahu Plaza and resorted to ransacking the showroom after verbal dual with the salesmen there on May 29.
The trouble erupted after the accused Professor insisted for replacement of a bicycle purchased by him even as the showroom staff sought to clarify that the same was not possible under the company’s policy and they could only change the faulty spare part, if any. However, instead of listening to the showroom staff or adopting legal action, the University Professor allegedly resorted to ransacking the showroom and also manhandled the salesmen.
While the Police was investigating the May 29 incident for further proceedings, Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia once again forced his entry into the showroom this evening and created a high-voltage drama there besides taking away a brand new bicycle thus inviting immediate Police intervention.
A Police team whisked away Prof Jasrotia to Trikuta Nagar Police Station for questioning into the case and released him later on. Police is investigating the matter and verifying the complaint against Prof Avtar Jasrotia for further action against him, said a senior Police officer.
