MENDHAR, Apr 11: The PDP workers in large number held strong protest demonstration against police and district administration Poonch after police refused to register an FIR in connection with the attack on Ex-MLC and senior PDP leader M R Qureshi by the supports of MLC and Dy Chairman Legislative Council Javed Rana in the Mendhar town last evening.
The town observed complete bandh and the public transport also remained off the road. The PDP workers led by MLA Mendhar Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan and others came out on the roads and started protest demonstration against NC leader and MLC Javed Rana. They also raised slogans against DC and SP Poonch for not taking cognizance of the matter. They alleged that two PDP agents were severely beaten up by the PSOs of Javed Rana at Kalaban polling booth in Mendhar during polls yesterday. The injured, Munawar Hussain and Abdul Khaliq were hospitalized. But Mendhar police refused to register an FIR.
Last evening, Qureshi’s vehicle was intercepted by NC activists near the house of Javed Rana on his behest and attacked. Qureshi had serious head injury as a stone hit him he was hospitalized but again no FIR. They alleged that lawlessness has been created on the behest of NC leaders and there was no law and order at all. They also shouted slogans against election authorities, district police chief and DC. The workers sat on protest dharna at main chowk in Mendhar town and continued protest. The MLA then spoke to DGP on phone and briefed him about the matter.
Later, SP Poonch, Addl SP Amit Gupta, Addl DC Arvind Sharma and AC (R) reached there. They talked to the protesting PDP leaders and MLA. Later, DIG Poonch-Rajouri A K Atrri also reached there.
The police then registered two FIRs No. 44/ 2014 and 46 /2014 U/S 341/ 147/336/323 RPC against Javed Rana, his PSOs, Mohd Sayed, Makhana and others. The PDP workers lifted dharna in the evening after an FIR was lodged against the alleged accused.
