JAMMU, Dec 17: One day Research Extension Interface Cum Rabi Conference 2016 at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, was inaugurated today by Pramod Jain, Financial Commissioner, Agriculture Production Department (APD).
The conference was organized by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI-J).
In his inaugural address, Pramod Jain laid emphasis on increasing production and productivity of Rabi crops, especially wheat in irrigated conditions to match the national average. He said that State average of wheat productivity is about 20 quintals/ha which needs to be increased to about 30 quintals per hectare. “For this efforts should be made by the SKUAST-J and Department of Agriculture Jammu to enhance productivity,” Jain said and insisted on proper recording of yield date through crop cut surveys conducted by the Revenue Department, and validating of the same by the University and Department of Agriculture jointly.
On this occasion, SKUAST-J Vice-Chancellor Professor. P.K Sharma exhorted for capacity building in terms of infrastructure human resource development and optimum marketing facilities of the farm produce.
Dr K S Risam apprised the house about the purpose of holding the event and highlighted the activities of SAMETI-J. S.K. Malhotra, Director Agriculture Jammu, put forth various researchable, extension and administrative issues for enhancing productivity and overcoming the impediments of dry land agriculture.
Dr. J P Sharma, Director Research, Dr D.P Abrol Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. V.K. Razdan and Dr Tuhina Day made presentation on various available technological intervention. Project Directors (ATMA) of the Jammu region also presented their activities and achievements. Dr T A S Ganie, Director Education; Dr M.M. S Zama Dean Veterinary; Dr D Kachroo, Registrar; R K Bhagat Additional Director Sericulture; Dr K K Bhardwaj, Joint Director Animal Husbandry; S Talvinder Singh Joint Director Horticulture; Heads of Divisions of SKUAST-J; scientists and district heads of various line departments attended the meeting. The proceedings were conducted by Dr Ramakant Sharma, Deputy Director SAMETI-J.
