JAMMU, Jan 17 – Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
The Governor and the Finance Minister, during their hour long meeting, discussed issues relating to effective fiscal management and its direct co-relation with increased resource mobilization for advancing the pace of socio-economic development of the State. The Governor congratulated Mr. Rather for very significant increase in the collection of tax revenue, as against the collections in the preceding year and hoped that the picture of non-tax revenue collection would also show some improvement by the end of the current fiscal year.
Prof. M. P. S. Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University called on Vohra.
The Governor, who is Chancellor of the Jammu University, discussed with the Vice Chancellor the various important issues relating to enhancing the University’s teaching and research capacities and for developing the varsity into a centre of excellence. Issues relating to the functioning of the main Campus and the development of off-site Campuses of the University were also discussed.
The Governor exhorted the Vice Chancellor to ensure against any deviation from the norm in any arena of functioning and to see that the varsity enjoyed a high repute as a centre of learning.
