LEH, Sept 13: Bollywood mega-star Aamir Khan during his visit to Leh called on Divisional Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas in his office and held prolonged discussions on various subjects ranging from film shooting here with proactive involvement of Ladakhis in the film industry and possibilities in the development and social sector in Ladakh.
Div Com. Biswas urged the mega star and film producer to explore possibilities of shooting high budgeted film in the picturesque locales of both the districts of Ladakh. Aamir Khan informed that they are planning shooting in the region in the coming year in which various stakeholders from the region will benefit substantially.
Biswas also urged Khan to identify talents from the region and give them an opportunity in acting and jobs of technical nature in the film industry. Amir Khan assured that he will proactively explore such possibilities.
Dy Chairman, LAHDC Leh and Executive Councillor Tourism Tsering Sandup was also present during the discussions. He urged that the various far-flung areas which are yet unknown but have immense tourism potential should be exposed through film medium facilitating economic activity in the areas. He also highlighted the concerns of ecological preservation in the clean and pristine environs of Ladakh.
Aamir Khan also appraised about the extensive work being carried out in the field of watershed management by his NGO, being run along with his wife Kiran Rao – Paani Foundation. Paani Foundation has already covered 75 talukas in Maharashtra and has involved over 4000 villages of the State in watershed management. They have also instituted Satyamev Jayate Water Cup, which is awarded every year to the best performing village in the field of watershed management.
It was decided during the discussion that a team of officers and elected representatives from Ladakh will be sent to Maharashtra to attend workshops with the Paani Foundation and study the ground level implementations of this successful voluntary civic action programme.
Defense Estate Officer Ladakh Irfan Hafiz, Additional Commissioner to Div Com Ladakh Tashi Dolma, Chief Executive Officer LDA, Dr Zahida Bano and Councillor Tiger Rigzin Lundup were also present during the interaction.
