JAMMU, July 9: Taking the Government to task for misleading the people by presenting wrong pictures that employment opportunities or overall socio-economic scenario in the State has improved, BJP National Executive Member & J&K Chief Spokesperson, Dr Jitendra Singh here, today said that the figures released by the Census Department belie the National Conference-Congress Coalition Government’s claims in this regard.
In a statement issued here today he said on the contrary, statistical evidence given by the Census Department points that the reverse is true.
To substantiate the point, Dr Jitendra Singh said the statistics are too tellingly evident to miss the inference that in the State of Jammu & Kashmir, out of a total population of 1.25 crore, only 43 lakh are employed while the rest 82 lakh are unemployed which, in other words, means that 65% of the population of J&K is unemployed notwithstanding the present Government’s self-proclaimed ‘‘heroic’’ initiatives like ‘‘Sher-e-Kashmir Employment Scheme’’, ‘‘Consolidated Salary job scheme’’, ‘‘Fast track recruitment policy’’ etc.
What is even more disturbing, while quoting census figures he said, that during the tenure of the present Coalition Government, that in the past if four persons in a family were dependent on a single bread-earner, it has increased to five or six persons now.
Dr Jitendra Singh asked what happened to the ruling party’s promise of providing education to all when the literacy rate stands at 67% which is far less than that in the neighboring States of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
As regards the Agriculture sector, Dr Jitendra Singh quoted the census report to point out that there is an alarming decline in the population involved in agriculture sector regarding which the Joint Chief Principal Census Officer has himself gone on record to draw an ominous surmise that the day is not far when J&K would have to completely import food grains from other States.
Dr Jitendra Singh also took on the Government on the issue of census pointing to declining sex ratio.
