Dr Satya Dev Gupta
Jammu Doctors Forum forged ahead to fight against the panic and terror of Corona virus i.e. COVID19. This viral infection has taken the lives of about six thousand patients all over the world. In our country, the infected persons reported so far is about 170, and about 3 persons have lost their lives.
As India is the 2nd largest populated country of the world; it is prone and subjected to mass destruction and casualty if the virus is not prevented ahead of time. By 18th March 27 new cases have been reported out of which 25 are foreigners and 15 already reported cases have recovered from the illness. Our country is at the 2nd stage i.e.(local transmission) of this pandemic disease.
JDF working committee has convened a meeting to ponder over the problems created by this epidemic and expressed its willingness to help the people of the city and public of the state. The literature available was searched out and preventive guidelines to hamper the spread of this disease highlighted for the awareness of the public. Jammu Doctors Forum extends its hands to serve the people for any eventuality that may arise. The forum shall come ahead as and when required and call given by the authorities for any medical help.
There are some guidelines given below to recognize the disease and act accordingly. It is better to be aware of and prevent the disease as Prevention is better than cure.
WATCH FOR SYMPTOMS
Reported illnesses have ranged from mild symptoms to severe illness and death for confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases.
The following symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.
· Fever
· Cough
· Shortness of breath
This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses (Middle East Respiratory Distress Syndrome).
· There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease in 2020 (COVID-19)
The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus.
· The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
· Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
· Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
· These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
Take steps to protect yourself
Clean your hands often
· Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
· If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick
·Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community. This is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.
Take steps to protect others
Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care. Learn what to do if you are sick.
Cover coughs and sneezes
· Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
· Throw used tissues in the trash.
· Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer.
