JAMMU, July 14: Sharad Srivastava, Director Fertilizer Movement, accompanied by Jatin Chopra, Assistant Commissioner (Movement) of the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, reviewed the status of fertilizer supplies in the State here today with the Director Agriculture, Jammu H K Razdan, who is also the Controller of Fertilizers, J&K.
Representatives of the various fertilizer supplying agencies namely Chambal Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (CFCL), IFFCO, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) and Indian Potash Limited (IPL) were also present in the meeting.
Srivastava listened to the problems and suggestions of the participants and assured that every effort is being made by Government of India to facilitate transportation of the fertilizers in minimum possible time from the production units and ports up to the rake points and further up to the farmer’s field through the distributing agents.
Earlier the officers visited the rake points at Railhead Jammu and Udhampur to inspect available infrastructure and to make an assessment of improvements required.
Director Agriculture, Jammu, H K Razdan appraised the visiting officers from the GoI about the supply plan, which is prepared month-wise and emphasized on the need to strengthen infrastructure and logistics for uninterrupted and smooth supply of fertilizers in the State, especially during the odd weather conditions when frequent road blockage due to landslides on the National Highway impede the transportation. He assured the GoI officers that the sampling of fertilizers is being done at the rake points to check the sub-standard fertilizers in the State and warned that the defaulting companies if found will be blacklisted.
The meeting was followed by interaction with various stakeholders of fertilizers viz J & K Self Reliant Central Level Co-operative Association, Srinagar, Apple Growers Association, Srinagar, All India Kissan Sabha, Kashmir and Kissan Morcha, Jammu & Kashmir. The farmers association pleaded for hassle free and equitable supply of fertilizers to the doorsteps of the farmers in time in all the regions and districts. They appealed for reduction of prices of fertilizers which are already high and have escalated further due to GST.
