JAMMU, Dec 26: Former minister and JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today said that feeling of hopelessness was emerging among the people of Jammu and Kashmir due to the policies of the present Government.
“Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha’s administration in J&K has failed to deliver and as a result of which people of J&K feel alienated and the main reasons behind is that they are deprived of their democratic rights. And moreover, no bureaucratic set-up can replace or prove to be a dependable substitute to an elected Government,” Bhalla said while addressing a public meeting at Sunjwan in Gandhingar constituency today.
PCC working president regretted the factors that have impeded the development in J&K and hoped for an early completion of the delimitation exercise that will eventually facilitate Assembly elections. He said in a democratic set-up, representative form of the Government understands the pulse of the people and formulates its actions and plans accordingly. This spirit and essence of democracy is completely missing under the present bureaucratic regime in J&K,” he added.
Bhalla said that a provisional bureaucratic arrangement can never be an equal substitute for the elected form of Government and all citizens of the country have the right to choose their own representatives who know their ground realities better. The elections will empower the people to choose their representatives in order to become masters of their own fate. In absence of an elected government, bureaucracy has only added to the woes of the people who seem completely disempowered in all the spheres of public life,” he said.
PCC leader said that People in J&K feel helpless, dejected and at odds with the administrative set-up and want elections to be held so that their problems are addressed on priority. Reiterating his party’s demand for the restoration of statehood before assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Bhalla said there is a feeling of hopelessness among the people with the officials in administration not listening to the public. He said the grievances of people have increased as no elected Government is in place in the Union Territory. To end the public suffering, the restoration of statehood is a must before holding of assembly elections, he said.
Congress leader said that statehood and rights to job and land are the identity and protection of our Dogra culture and the people of Jammu and Kashmir shall fight till last to secure their rights and status.
