FCS&CA Deptt conducts Price Consultative Committee meeting

JAMMU, Aug 21: Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department, Jammu, Amit Sharma, today convened a meeting of the Price Consultative Committee to discuss, revise and re-fix the prices of the essential commodities like mutton, chicken, live sheep/goat and eggs, bakery products, halwai items, milk and milk products, fruits & vegetables, etc.
The meeting was attended by officers from various departments including the FCS&CA, Legal Metrology, Animal Husbandry and Horticulture departments, besides representatives of Consumer Organizations and stake-holders from different trades like Bakery Association, Halwai Associations, Mutton, Chicken and Egg Seller Association, Milk Sellers Associations and Dhaba Association.
At the outset of the meeting, Director FCS&CA Jammu assured the participants towards organizing meetings of Price Consultative Committee on a regular basis so that the prices of essential commodities can be reviewed from time to time by the Department in consultation with concerned stake holders. Representatives from all the trades shared their view-points at lengths with the Director and several suggestive measures were also presented in the meeting which were noted down by the Department.
The Mutton Sellers consented on the previous rates fixed by the department and rates of Chicken and Eggs were revised and re-fixed at lower prices of  Rs 100 per kg and Rs 48 per dozen respectively instead of Rs 120 per kg and Rs 60 per dozen as it was previously fixed.
However, the Director issued directions to the officers to conduct a detailed market survey of essential commodities being sold at Halwai shops, Dhabas, Bakery shops and Milk & Milk products and submission of a report on same before organizing the next Price Consultative Committee meeting, especially in the light of upcoming festival season and also due to non-revision of rates of these commodities for a long time.
At the conclusion, necessary directions were issued by the Director to implement the notified rates in letter and spirit so as to safeguard the interest of consumers which is the primary motto towards conducting this exercise.
