REASI, Sept 9: Inhabitants of village Bakkal and adjoining localities, who are facing severe water scarcity because of ongoing construction work by the Indian Railways, today held a strong protest demonstration and threatened to migrate from the area.
The protesting villagers raised slogans against the District administration and the Railway authorities for their alleged insensitive attitude towards the plights of locals who are facing severe water scarcity because of ongoing construction work for the rail line and railway bridge.
The villagers said that the water flowing through a nallah had changed its course because of construction of Railway tunnel number 5 and hence the entire Bakkal village was facing acute shortage of water.
If no solution if water scarcity is immediately evolved, we will have no option other than to migrate from the village,” they said and added that blasting by the Railway construction companies had also damaged their houses.
As the people continued their protest, Tehsildar Bhamag Akshay Rajan along with Police force reached the spot and pacified the villagers by assuring that the matter would be brought into the notice of Deputy Commissioner for early solution of their grievance.
Even as the villagers dispersed off after assurance by the Tehsildar, they threatened to intensify the protest if their grievance is not addressed.
