WASHINGTON: Facebook is considering to introduce restrictions on live video streaming and content posting after a deadly shooting at a New Zealand mosque.
Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg said in a blog post on Friday that Facebook is “exploring restrictions on who can go Live depending on factors such as prior Community Standard violations.”
“While the original New Zealand attack video was shared Live, we know that this video spread mainly through people re-sharing it and re-editing it to make it harder for our systems to block it,” Sandberg said.
On March 15, a gunman live-streamed for 17 minutes the attack on two mosques in New Zealand that killed 50 people, BBC news reported.
Fewer than 200 people had watched it live and the first user report of the video had come 12 minutes after it had ended, Facebook said
Facebook removed the original and hashed it – essentially made a digital fingerprint – meaning that material that was visibly similar to the original could be automatically detected and removed. (AGENCIES)
