Extension of Devika Development Project upto Gau Karan demanded

UDHAMPUR, Oct 26: People of Sudh Mahadev has demanded the Government to include first source of ‘Holy Devika’ in Udhampur Devika Development Project.
People said that according to Hindu religious books, Mata Parvati, elder sister of Ganga on the advice of Lord Shiva turned herself in the shape of ‘Holy Devika stream’ and appeared near Sudh Mahadev for the purification of hilly people of ‘Duggar Desh’ from sins. He said that this place is also called Gau Karan.
“Every year thousands of pilgrims take bath in the holy stream on the occasion of Chet and Maghar Chowdesh, Lohari, Baisakhi, Shiv Ratri and on the occasion of Sudh Mahadev mela but with the growth of population on banks of this stream, it is being polluted and needs attention of the Government for cleanliness”, they said.
They demanded that ‘Devika Development Project Udhampur’ be extended up to its first original source at Gau Karan. They also demanded construction of ghats, parks, drains and protection walls on the banks of the stream to protect it from encroachments and pollution.
