POONCH, July 2: The Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC), an organisation of Displaced Persons of 1947 from Pak occupied Kashmir have urged upon the State authorities to expedite the process of disbursement of relief to the displaced families.
A meeting of the DPs was held under the chairmanship of Tarlok Singh Tara, president Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) Poonch unit, wherein besides Poonch, a large number of DPs from adjoining areas also participated.
While taking stock of the issues/problems being faced by DPs, the speakers in the meeting expressed their strong resentment regarding the slow disbursement of relief particularly in respect of those DPs/beneficiaries who are awaiting relief/compensation for the last more than one year despite their clearing the objections several times. The participants in the meeting seek the implementation of Joint Parliamentary Committee report having top priority for the reservations of their wards in employment / technical institutions besides release and reservation for eight Assembly seats out of 24 for DPs of 1947 from PoK who are now settled in Jammu region.
While presenting his views regarding the legitimate issues/problems of DPs raised by participants in the meeting Tarlok Singh said that the central body of JKSAC is seized of the issues and struggling for the resolution of the same from the last more than five decades. But unfortunately no adequate steps have been taken till now. The issues have also been recently raised and discussed by Central body in a high level meeting at Srinagar.
The members appealed the Union Govt and Governor to release the relief funds for the remaining beneficiaries to save them from harassment and exploitation. He was also further urged upon to direct the authorities to prepare a comprehensive road map for the final settlement of DPs as per the recommendation of Joint Parliamentary Committee report.
DS Azad, Capt Ashok Sharma, Balwant Singh, Capt Jaswant Singh and Mangat Ram also spoke on the occasion.
