Ex-Treasury officer booked for graft

JAMMU, Feb 10: Crime Branch (CB) Jammu has booked an ex-Treasury officer of Reasi Treasury for misappropriation of pension of rightful claimants to the tune of more than Rs 25 lakh.
A spokesperson of CB Jammu said that a written communication was received in Crime Branch Jammu from Mohd Iqbal Ganaie, Deputy Director (Central) Accounts and Treasuries, Finance Department, J&K, Jammu along with an inquiry report, revealing that Thakur Dass, Ex-Head Cashier, Reasi Treasury, has deliberately and fraudulently credited an amount of Rs 24,85,340 into the account of his own daughter in law, Madhu Rani wife of Mahinder Kumar and has also transferred an amount of Rs 31,775 into his personal account by misusing his official position.
“The accused who was entrusted with the job of payments to the rightful pension holders and have domain over the State Exchequer has deliberately and fraudulently misappropriated the amount by committing criminal breach of trust,” he submitted in the communication.
He said the omission and commission on part of the accused prima facie constitute offence punishable u/s 409 RPC and 5(2) PC Act svt. 2006. “Accordingly, a formal criminal case has been registered in police station Crime Branch, Jammu for in-depth investigation,” the spokesman added.
