Ex-sarpanch lands in police net with Rs 2 lakh heroin

JAMMU, May 28: Keeping hawks eye over narcotics smugglers involved in making the youth drug addicts, an ex-sarpanch landed in the net of Gandhi Nagar Police along with heroin worth Rs 2 lakh.
As per police sources, on reliable information about smuggling of drugs, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ raised a vehicles checking point and signaled a Wagon-R car bearing registration number JK02AT-0352 to stop for checking.
Sensing trouble of being caught by the cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. However, the cops got suspicious and intercepted the car after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 20 grams heroin valuing Rs 2 lakh from the possession of the driver and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Alam Din, son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of Ragoor, District Jammu.
The accused, being an Ex-Sarpanch of Panchayat Ragoora in District Jammu was in a belief that he can carry out his nefarious designs of making youth drug addicts by using his position and political patronage, but police put his belief aside and put him behind the bars so as to save the youth from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 123/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and further investigation of the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by ASI Shesh Pal made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, SP South Sandeep Choudhary and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
