Ex-police personnel discuss demands

JAMMU, July 12: A meeting of Ex-Policemen League, district Jammu was held at Gujjar Charitable Trust, here today where a number of issues pertaining to the welfare of the retired policemen were discussed.
The meeting was presided under the chairmanship of KS Sambyal, Deputy SP (Retd), president of the League. During comprehensive discussion, speakers expressed that some of the retirees are in the grip of serious ailment requiring costly treatment which they can’t afford and desired that their parent department should come forward for their help.
They said that their medical allowance should be enhanced from Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month. The meeting decided that the executive body of the district committee members will approach DGP J&K and IGP Jammu zone and request for providing suitable accommodation to the League for the office use in the police premises where at least 50 to 70 chairs can be adjusted easily.
The speakers expressed desire that in the event of death of a police officer/official on spot payment of Rs 10,000 should be made through a special representative of Police Department and all district SSPs may be authorized to sanction the amount for meeting last rites expenses of the deceased police officer/official.
The meeting said that all SHOs may be directed to visit once in every quarter of the year at the residence of retired policemen residing in their jurisdictions to enquire their health/welfare and at the event of death of retiree, Police Control Room, Jammu inform accordingly.
The ex-police personnel also demanded that sufficient medicines be kept available in Police Hospital to fulfill the requirements of the retirees suffering with diabetes, uric acid, blood pressure, etc and also provide specs and hearing aids to the needy retirees.
All the members of the League requested DGP J&K, Dr SP Vaid and Chairman of Ex-Policemen League, J&K, MM Khajuria to approach Governor NN Vohra with a request to revive SRO 458 of 13.10.1999 and 5% reservation in police recruitment in both entry level I.E. constabulary and Sub-Inspector.
