JAMMU, June 28: All Jammu and Kashmir Electric Department Linemen and Workers Union held a meeting under the chairmanship of its President Ashiq Hussain.
Anil Slathia, senior vice president, Pawan Sharma, general secretary, office bearers and executive body members participated in the meeting.
The main objective of the meeting focused on increasing accidents, which took place while executing works on poles and 3-phase HTC/LTC.
While speaking, Ashiq Hussain said that accidents and deaths while carrying works on electric poles take place due to negligence of the officers, who control at back of the working point.
“Lineman Bodh Raj, son of Sansar Singh of Khandwal, District Jammu died due to electric shock few days back, while linemen Dalbir Singh, son of Ganga Ram of Division No III, Sub Div II Janipur and Madan Lal of Div No III Sub Division I Canal were injured while carrying works on transformer and LTC line and are under treatment”, he informed.
President said that the department has never given any due consideration to linemen, who are backbone of the department and renders their duties 24×7. During COVID pandemic, linemen rendered their services in the interest of consumers and the department, he stated.
“No ex-gratia relief is being given to such linemen, who either get electrocuted or receive grave injuries”, he stated.
President has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Secretary and Managing Director to intervene and redress the problems being faced by the families after their earning hand (linemen) get electrocuted or injured.
He appealed for ex-gratia relief to the electrocuted lineman Bodh Raj’s family and to injured also.
Among others present were Surinder Kumar, Vijay Gupta, Tara Chand, Tilak, Narinder Singh, Hanidpal, Kewal Krishan, Kartar Natha, Ankit Singh, etc.
