KHOUR, Jan 14: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Tara Chand today called upon the party workers to gear up for the forthcoming Panchayat elections.
While addressing a rally at Khour, which was attended in large number by the Congress workers and local people, Tara Chand accused the Coalition Government of weakening the Panchayati Raj System by introducing indirect election of Sarpanch. “The Congress during its rule had incorporated some of the features of the 73rd amendment to decentralize the powers to the Panchayats but the present Coalition Government has changed it again,” he said
The former DyCM asked  the Congress workers and people to teach the ruling coalition partners a lesson by electing  Panch candidates of impeccable integrity so that the eligible Sarpanches are elected and the elected Panchayats  could function smoothly.
Tara Chand said it was unfortunate that the present Government has given permission to the military to use firing range at Kalith Kalan. “This firing range was earlier shifted as it was affecting nearly fifteen villages directly and indirectly. Moreover, the firing of heavy arms is weakening the Shivalik Range hills and the frequent landslides are taking place increasing more miseries for the people of the area,” he explained and  urged upon the Government to immediately order shifting  of this firing range to some isolated place.
Tara Chand also conducted an extensive tour to various villages and interacted with the people who apprised him of various local issues. He also found that the condition of majority of the roads was deteriorating and the same needed repair as these roads were constructed or repaired five to seven years ago.
