AMRITSAR/ JAMMU, Sept 6:  Highly specialized intervention cardiologist from Republic of Macdeonia, Dr Sasko Kedev, is in North India these days to conduct complex heart procedures on patients suffering from 100% blockage of  heart.
He arrived in Amritsar today  to treat three critical patients suffering with total blockage of  heart artery, especially the left main artery, through revolutionary successful new angioplasty technique, informed Dr  Arun Chopra, Director Cardiology of Fortis Hospital at Amritsar today.
Dr Chopra  further revealed that these patients with complex blockage in their coronary arteries earlier had to be treated with bypass surgery. Now, several such patients can be treated successfully with newer angioplasty techniques as done in our hospital today, allowing for faster recovery and early discharge.
Dr Sasko Kedev informed that cardiac catheterization by radial approach uses the arm artery to access the heart as opposed to traditional leg or femoral artery which makes it possible to treat blockage in arteries.
The radial approach used to treat such high risk patients with chronic total occlusion (CTO) is highly successful and safe and the patient can resume normal life in matter of days, he said.
DrKedev also demonstrated the technique of antegrade and retrograde stenting to open blocked arteries through non-invasive technique to the Fortis team of cardiologists.
Dr Deepak Kapila, Director Interventional Cardiology, Fortis Hospital said that our commitment is to save lives with the latest path-breaking techniques by inviting experts like DrKedev, who also enhance the knowledge and expertise level of our cardiologists too.
Total coronary artery blockage is a serious condition which is common in the region due to sedentary lifestyle, consumption of  highly saturated fat, diabetes, hypertension, etc., Dr HP Singh Medical Director added.
