JAMMU, Aug 21: Estates employees today struck work and held protest demonstration followed by day-long  dharna in front of the office of Executive Engineer Estates Division near Shakuntla crossing here today.
These workers have intensified their protest programme. They are on agitational path since August 18 in support of their demands. There is strong resentment among the employees over the delaying attitude of the higher authorities.
The employees led by their leaders Prem Singh Bawa and Yash Pal Sharma, under the banner of J&K Coordination Committee of Estates Employees went on protest. They are demanding that their pending issues be resolved without any further delay. These leaders alleged that despite several representations, meetings with the senior officials of the department, employees’  demands were not addressed. They struck work and continued their day long dharna in the office complex near Shakuntla Chowk.
They are demanding early conduct of DPC,  re-organization of Estates Department,  regularization of daily rated workers, release of wages of casual/ need based workers, provision of two and half day salary to the staff, issue appointment orders under SRO- 43, construction of building for the office of Dy Director Estates, change of recruitment rules and implementation of transfer policy and shifting of employees sitting at one post/ place for decades.
Meanwhile, Coordination Committee of the employees has decided to extend their strike for two more days on August 22 and 23.  Several trade unionists including P S Bawa, Yash Paul, Rash Pal, Puran Chand, Tilak Raj, Subash Chander, Ravi Sharma and Sagar Massih addressed the gathering.
