JAMMU, Feb 16: Entertaining presentation of Yogesh Tripathi’s play in Hindustani, ‘Keshav Leela Ramrangeela’, by Nav Durga Kala Manch, marked the fourth day of ongoing Abhinavagupta Natyamahostav, being organized by Amateur Theatre group, at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Directed by young actor/director Aditya Bhanu the play develops on the story of two thieves, Keshav and Leela who in a bid to improve their financial state leave their village Ratnagiri and move to Kanchanvadi. There, they meet a cunning merchant, Ramrangeela. Keshav undergoes a makeover of a Sadhu whereas Leela becomes a princess. Both thieves banking upon the greedy nature of the Ramrangeela hatch a brilliant plan and take away all his money.
The play which showcases the social evils such as power abuse and corruption was an entertaining presentation that made the audience burst into laughter time and again. Dilshad Ahmed, in multiple comic roles that of Ramrangeela and Sadhu’s ‘chela’ Gadhadhar, stole the show for his brilliant acting marked with versatility, spontaneity, improvisation and perfect sense of timing.
Aditya Bhanu as the cunning thief Keshav was also impressive in his convincing role of crafty Sadhu. Krishama Bajgal, as Leela and Pooja Verma as Sethaayan, Sugandha Goel as Lajjavati, and Anoop Goswami as Raja also gave good performances. Other members of the cast included Shweta Jamwal as Vaitalika, Sandeep Sharma as Lajjadhar and Ashish Bhat as Govind.
The background music was by Varun Sharma, lights by Shashi Bhushan, costumes by Nikhil Sharma and make-up by Reetu. Dilshad Ahmed also assisted in direction.
Tomorrow Padma Sachdev’s Hindi translation of Mohan Singh’s Dogri play ‘Kala Suraj’ will be staged by Rangyatri under direction of Mushtaq Kak.
